The Fourth Estate has a new home

In December last year was inaugurated in Milan at the Palazzo dell'Arengario, the Museum of the twentieth century . On this occasion the painting of "The Fourth Estate" (1901) of Pellizza by Volpedo, was transferred to this new site, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Villa Reale.
Given the considerable size of the painting, the move was anything but firm simple and involved a number of people for a whole day of work, apart from the preliminary stages of organization and handling.
addition to hosting the famous picture, surely destined symbol of the house of the twentieth century, the Museum of Milan is home to many other important works of art, of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, from Boccioni Balla, De Chirico fountain, through Manzoni, Sironi, CarrĂ , Guttridge, to the best-known foreign artists, from Picasso, Klee, Braque, Matisse, to name a few.
The museum starts from "The Fourth Estate", masterfully placed on the spiral ramp built at the center and through dell'Arengario the art of the twentieth century.
History panel by Pellizza Volpedo is controversial, like that of every great work worthy of respect. The strike by farmers in Piedmont: a modern subject in the years when he was painting, was presented in Turin and found no success, but was bought by public subscription on the part of Milan, has always really been exposed in the Lombard city. The
Arengario, built in the 50s of last century and designed by Portaluppi, Muzio, Magistretti and Griffin, has been restored since the beginning of 2009 to house the Museum of the twentieth century. The design of the new museum was signed by Italo Rota and Fabio Fornasari. The renovation of the building
was also a winner at the search for dialogue between the building itself and the city, which appears dell'Arengario beautiful large windows, overlooking the Piazza del Duomo where you can admire the beautiful Torre always Velasco. The museum also has a direct connection to the subway station, which places more so in the context of a choice to promote the city and art, and especially for dialogue between the city and the arts.
The architects who designed the conversion of the building had to combine the difficult task of optimizing the space to accommodate such a large collection with the return of the building a strong, lively and seductive, which also had owned in the past.
The Museum of the twentieth century seems destined to become one of the privileged places of culture and art in Milan, finally able to compete with the recent flowering of art galleries in major cities of Italy, we think, for example, the recent Maxxi of Rome.
The Museum of the twentieth century and then only to be expected path and appreciated, plus free, until 28 February.
