Stolu, the sculptor of the Matese

the Matese Massif, which extends in the Apennines south - central, between the Molise and Campania, is a massive karstic therefore made mainly of limestone, like the precious marble of Carrara, but for entirely different from that geological formations.
The Blonde in the first half of the fifteenth century, in his "Illustrated Italy", described the Matese "The Matese, a promontory of the Apennines, superb stands and stretches to the Mediterranean, was ... very barren and rocky hill on which the lived the first strong Samnites. "
And who lives or has lived it knows that it is still exactly like that. The rock has is around us, protecting us away when our eyes are turned towards the sea.
Anyone wishing it a minimum of geology, if only by hearsay, know that limestone is among the softer rocks and works all those present on the planet.
Stolu But try to ask what do you think?
Stocchetti Luigi, aka Stolu, plasma Matese limestone, as is always the water. 'S why I like to call it the "Sculptor of Matese". Matese, in fact, he shapes the material, but it also reflected the character of the people, the peculiarities of history and the nuances of geography.
His sculpture is in my opinion at the turn of expressionism, cubism and abstract, without being backward and outdated. In particular, the human figures, many in the artistic production of the sculptor, reminiscent in some respects the figures of the German Expressionist painters, and some details of the research on Picasso's Cubist or other female figures. I refer in particular to the breakdown in the fourth dimension, that we are perhaps more used to seeing the painting, but also characterizes some sculptures more or less known, and that certainly concerns Stolu sculptures.
To fully understand we must look at all sides, do not have to, or perhaps it is more correct to say that each verse tells a part of and contributes to the overall understanding of the work.
Stolu has an open-air laboratory in a corner of paradise Matese, in open countryside, just south of the town of Letino. When carving the stone holds in his hands is the same as that in front of you and all around, the one shaped by time, more skilful sculptor.
many times I visited his laboratory that this is both a "field" strewn with sculptures, which stand proudly over the prairie, with the Matese mountains silhouetted against the horizon, and bring with me a bit 'of his art, but only to confront him, and every time I hit the quantity and quality of production, never equal to itself and always looking for new directions. I enclose
gladly post the link an interesting interview that the sculptor has released a bit 'of time ago, which adds to this thought some biographical information about the artist and explores some aspects of his work.
Anyone who should happen by the parties of Letino advice instead of going to see for himself the place where Stolu works. To mark the route, no matter where you arrive, you will find his works anywhere, in public places of towns perched on the Matese or scattered in private gardens, to terminate the membership of a place and dedication to art that represents .
